The London toymakers Taylor and Barrett (T&B) were established in 1920 in Holloway, north London by Fred G Taylor and his brother-in-law A.R. Barrett. Both previous employees of Britains, Fred Taylor was an engineer by trade and he designed most of the toys, as well as making the moulds in which the metal was cast. They were a prolific manufacturer who also made for the brand Charbens during the early 1920s. Their production covered all areas of civilian and village life including entertainment, explorers, farm, house and home, police and road, railway, sport, tradespeople, Wild West and zoo. They were also known for making pieces for dolls houses, which have become particularly sought by vintage dolls house collectors. In 1929, the firm moved to Park Works in East Finchley, which was destroyed in an air raid in World War II.
After the war, the partnership did not continue and so two separate companies were formed: F.G. Taylor and Barrett and Sons.
