Scarce 1907 WSC Naval Bayonet
This is a scarce 1907 pattern bayonet manufactured by ‘Wilkinson Sword Company’ in WWII to fulfil a contract from the ‘Royal Navy’for a bayonet to fit the ‘Lanchester’ sub machine gun which were mainly issued to the Navy. It is distinguishable from the standard ‘1907’pattern by the markings to the blade of crown over ‘E.R. 1907 S294 W.S.C." Other markings are hard to make out but appears to be a '2' and a '4, it is unclear of any other numbers so it is difficult to determine the year but we know it too me in the 40's.The ‘S294’ is ‘Wilkinson's’ wartime code and 2 ‘4' denotes its manufacture in February 194*?.The scabbard is a ‘No1 MkII’ with round frog stud and marked to both. The chape and top mount are imprinted with ‘W.J.H.’ over ‘B’ and ‘M/121’.The frog is a standard 1937 pattern webbing example. Only ’87,600’ of these bayonets were manufactured from ‘1943’ onwards, making them a very scarce bayonet. The blade is in excellent condition with only minor age related marks.
